SPELLING OF VERB + 'ING'

Generally, when we add '-ing' to the verb,the verb remains the same:

Talk + -ing  Talking

Work + -ing  Working

Start + -ing  Starting

There are some important exceptions:

A) Verbs ending in 'e'

When a verb ends in 'e' drop the final 'e':

Have --> hav - e + ing = having

LIVE--> liv - e + ing = living

Dance --> dancing

Make --> making

B) Consonant  Vowel  Consonant

When a verb ends in a consonant vowel consonant (i.e.stop) double the final consonant.

Stop + p + ing = stopping

Plot + t + ing = plotting

Swim     swimming

Get        getting
